Basic Care

Neem is a fast-growing tree which requires more care and nurturing when it is in the early stages of its life. Even though it is resistant and survives in varied weather conditions, it has a liking towards hot weather. It should be taken care that the temperature does not drop too low, especially when the plant is in its nascency.

Overwatering a Neem tree would be the easiest way to end its life. The soil should be watered only when it feels dry. Overwatering can choke the tree and must be avoided.

Neem can grow in almost any soil except soggy waterlogged soilswell-drained soil is advised.

Neem trees tend to like sunlight. They can grow well in well-lit areas, but it is advised that plants should not be kept in bright sun.

Neem generally flowers during the months of January and AprilThey have a unique smell and also produce nectar. The flowers are generally about 5mm long and white in color. These Neem flowers have a significant medical importance.

Neem trees can reach about 15-20 meters on an average in their lifetime. These trees grow fast and cover a large area. Their branches can spread widely and the crown diameter can be about 15-20 metersThe flowers are about 5-6 mm in size.

Although Neem can grow in varied climatic conditions and soil, good and timely fertilizing of the plant is always beneficial. The most important part of fertilizing is adding a fertilizer which is balanced and contains all the nutrients required by the plant. During the growth stages, it is advised to fertilize the plant every 3 or 4 weeks. In winters, this frequency must be much lower.
